Beyond the Shape of Asana with Rishin Paonaskar

Yoga is often described as a union between the mind and body and while the shape of a pose is a great way to begin our exploration of the practice, we often go into autopilot when we have been practicing for a while. Creating a shape or going through the motions while the mind and body are detached. On the other hand, even if certain advanced poses shapes are not yet part of your practice, it is possible to embody the pose by consciously connecting mind and body.

In this workshop, Rishin will invite you to explore seemingly “simple” and “advanced” poses with a fresh perspective to build a stronger mind-body connection. You will discuss mechanics of the joints and balance to help build strength and stability.  The workshop will end with restorative poses to settle the body and nervous system. Suitable for all levels.

Rishin grew up in India and although yoga was taught at his school, he didn’t take it up until several years later to recuperate from a cycling injury. In 2012 he left a career in banking to start his own food business and also completed his 200 hour Yoga Alliance training at Hot Power Yoga. He has since trained as a myofascial body worker with senior Forrest Yoga teachers Jambo Truong and Brian Campbell, with Judith Hanson Lasater and as a yoga sports coach with the Institute of Yoga Sport Science.
