Mollie McClelland Morris presents a series of online yoga anatomy workshops for Yogarise, exploring Everyday Anatomy. Whether you’re a teacher or practitioner, this is for anyone looking to delve a little deeper and understand more about movement and the way our bodies work. Part Three on Sunday 6 March will focus on the hamstrings. Workshops can be pick n mixed, bought individually, or as a full 6 part series.

A bit about the Everyday Anatomy Series…

Have you ever been instructed to “tuck your tailbone” or “open your hips”? And is that even something we should strive for? Do our hamstrings even need to be “stretched”? Should our core be constantly “engaged”? This brand new and exciting series of workshops with Mollie will explore, challenge and help us demystify some of these common cues and question what is really going on inside. Perhaps you have a persistent niggle or feel like you are always ‘working with something’ when you come to the mat? Teachers! Are you finding an increasing number of students coming to class with injuries? This series of virtual workshops with Mollie will answer these questions and more! Whether a yoga or movement practice teacher or a  practitioner who wants to understand their body better, this series is for you. It will enable you to enjoy and find freedom on your mat through learning about your body’s individual needs. It will provide tips to ensure a safe practice, and will help teachers to better understand some of the injuries students present within class.

Part Three of Mollie’s Everyday Anatomy Series will focus on the Hamstrings

Hamstring pain is one of the main injuries that come up for yogis, sometimes even called “yoga butt” or seat pain. And tight hamstrings prevent some people from even trying yoga. 

The question is, do we need long hamstrings? Should we constantly be stretching our hamstrings? Should touching our toes and forward bending be the cornerstone of our yoga practice? 

This class will explore hamstring lengthening poses – like forward bends, as well as strengthening poses like bridge and lunge. You will learn some anatomy, some imagery and some quick ‘wake-up-your-body ‘movements that your hamstrings will LOVE. And whilst some are images you play with during yoga, others you can use when you are walking or doing other activities – so super useful off the mat too!

Part anatomical information, part specific training exercises and part yoga practice, this workshop we will explore the movements in yoga that can aggravate the hamstrings, and imagery and modifications that can ease the strain. We will play with ways to build capacity, strength and balanced flexibility in the hamstrings to keep them happy.
