Mollie McClelland Morris presents a series of online yoga anatomy workshops for Yogarise, exploring Everyday Anatomy. Whether you’re a teacher or practitioner, this is for anyone looking to delve a little deeper and understand more about movement and the way our bodies work. Part Two on Sunday 6 February will focus on spinal health and relieving back pain. Workshops can be pick n mixed, bought individually, or as a full 6 part series.
A bit about the Everyday Anatomy Series…
Have you ever been instructed to “tuck your tailbone” or “open your hips”? And is that even something we should strive for? Do our hamstrings even need to be “stretched”? Should our core be constantly “engaged”? This brand new and exciting series of workshops with Mollie will explore, challenge and help us demystify some of these common cues and question what is really going on inside.
Perhaps you have a persistent niggle or feel like you are always ‘working with something’ when you come to the mat?
Teachers! Are you finding an increasing number of students coming to class with injuries?
This series of virtual workshops with Mollie will answer these questions and more! Whether a yoga or movement practice teacher or a practitioner who wants to understand their body better, this series is for you. It will enable you to enjoy and find freedom on your mat through learning about your body’s individual needs. It will provide tips to ensure a safe practice, and will help teachers to better understand some of the injuries students present within class.
Part Two of Mollie’s Everyday Anatomy Series will focus on the Spine and getting us ‘Back to Health’ (get it!?)
Back pain is an epidemic, so if you have been struggling, you are not alone. This class is a journey through spinal movements to help you find ways to improve how you feel in your body, instantly. We will look at ways to maintain and build strength, range of movement, confidence, flexibility, and ease in your back over the longer term. Sounds good, right?
We will also learn about balancing the pelvis, using our abs effectively and how the spine can love to move. Some of the key poses we will focus on are uttkatasana, supine backbends like cobra, sidebends and twists and poses that activate the core.
You will learn strategies for strengthening, mobilising and supporting the body to move intelligently and freely. Specifically we will work with:
- Spinal stability to keep our spines healthy
- Strengthening the back muscles so they function well
- How to use the core effectively
- How to move the spine in segments, so it is adaptable to many different movements
- Improving our Range of Movement to help feed the discs and supportive spinal structures
- Activating in ways that compliment our normal daily activities (sitting!!)
Using evidence based practices, including self-reflection and goal setting, helps us acknowledge our growth and change, and to help maintain our results moving forward.
