Katy has been practicing yoga since her early 20s, and first started teaching yoga in 2010. Her teaching style and practice has shifted and changed over this period, but has always stayed aligned and connected to the teaching principles of Anusara® yoga. Now an Anusara-Inspired yoga teacher, Katy is thrilled to share her passion for a school of yoga that has helped shaped not just her practice, but emotional and spiritual life.
Katy teaches classes and workshops at studios, festivals and events national and internationally. She’s thrilled to team up with the wonderful Chloë Faulkner to offer retreats in Europe and globally.
Initially teaching children’s yoga through SE London, Katy was able to combine her degree in Drama, Applied Theatre and Education to help children learn yoga through play, engage with their imaginations, and feel confidant expressing themselves verbally, physically and emotionally. It was a quick progression to her YA 200 certification, under the guidance of Bridget Woods-Kramer, who she continues to study with and assist today. She has studied under Bridget, as well as Katy Appleton and Gilly Nevin to learn how to support pre and post natal woman in their yoga practices and labour.
Katy classes are playful and creative and have a strong focus on safe alignment in every pose. Expect to use props, make new friends and have a bit of fun during class! The heart opening and self affirming Universal Principles of Anusara Yoga can be applied to every style of yoga, be it dynamic, restorative or somewhere in-between.
Katy says “Yoga is connection with everything – not just with individuals’ bodies, breath + mind, but to also connection to the people and world around you. The combination of awareness of universal, as well as personal connection is (for me!) the key to spiritual growth. One my greatest hopes is that the students who attend my classes are able to build friendships, and have a sense of community, in and outside of the classroom.”
In 2019 Katy embarked on her training as a Therapeutic Thai Massage practitioner, studying under Natasha De Grunwald (London Institute of Thai Massage) and is excited to combine the therapeutic qualities of massage and yoga to her students.
In 2020 Katy studied with Hands on Babies and is thrilled to now offer Baby massage and Baby Yoga classes to new parents at in person and online.
