Meet the teacher

Austin has been directing this course since 2016 and teaches weekly classes for Yogarise in both Streatham and Peckham studios (and livestream) as well as on our On Demand Yoga channel.

Prior to curating the course, Austin undertook five different yin teacher trainings, with some of the most influential Yin teachers around, including Bernie Clark and Paul Grilley. He felt that whilst all courses had lots to offer, there wasn’t one course that ‘had it all’. Austin created his own training ‘The Art of Letting Go’ to combine all his learnings and produce a fully-rounded, functional anatomy-based training with an emphasis on teaching methodology. It is also a great refresher for those who wish to brush up on and delve deeper into functional anatomy.

WHY TRAIN IN YIN?

Yin is the perfect complementary practice to a regular vinyasa practice. If vinyasa yoga is the only style practised, the body can become weary and contracted. Yin yoga helps us to restore our energy by releasing stored-up tension.

As a teaching skill, Yin can be extremely beneficial in one-to-one settings, helping students to increase their range of motion and aid those who are rehabilitating injuries.

In yin we work more into the connective tissue and joints, stressing them to increase their health, this is tailored to the individual using our knowledge of anatomical variations. Yin is also a great second practice to teach in the evenings on a retreat - another great tool in the box!

For all participants, a Yin immersion, with the multiple yin practices, has the potential to have a profound effect on our own central nervous system - yin’s a win-win.
