PORTUGAL YOGA RETREAT SEPTEMBER 2019
WITH EMMA PEEL
21-28 SEPTEMBER, ALGARVE, PORTUGAL
UNPLUG, RELAX. REJUVENATE.
Feel the freedom of fresh air and stillness, take in the views, soak up the sunshine, nurture your body and soul with wholesome, tasty food and yoga from Emma Peel.
Our second Yogarise retreat of 2019, we literally cannot wait! We know that a week of yoga with Emma would be pretty wonderful anywhere in the world, BUT we have discovered a true gem in the protected mountain wilderness of the beautiful Algarve. If you are looking to really get away from it all, to unwind, unplug, and enjoy the moment, read on…
This very special location is renowned for its pristine air quality and breath-taking uninterrupted views without another soul in sight. Blissful, right?
Each day will begin with an optional meditation session followed by an uplifting, yin-yang yoga practice and end with a grounding yin and meditation session. There will be plenty of time to explore the stunning surroundings, take in the sunsets, relax by the infinity pool, and feast on some delicious, healthy food cooked fresh daily.
Wild View Retreat has arisen from the ruins of an abandoned mountain village in the foothills of the Algarve in Portugal. Originally built by a Portuguese Army General in 1898, the Manor House and surrounding ruins have undergone a 1.5 year restoration and redevelopment project, transforming the iconic setting into a bespoke wellness retreat.
The retreat setting is defined by its spectacular 360° views of the Serra do Caldeirão mountains, a Zona De Intervenção Florestal protected for its natural beauty and famous Portuguese cortiça (cork) trees.
Environmentally conscious, the retreat is sustainability powered by 15kw 32panel solar system and has a private water source filtered from a natural underground aquifer.
The bedrooms are completely new with private ensuite bathrooms, brand new interiors and fittings. They have been beautifully designed by Set Designer Erika Rodriguez with very comfy spacious beds, air conditioning and underfloor electric heating for the cooler months. All the rooms have large sliding French doors that walk out on to a traditional Portuguese calçalda veranda.
Wild View Retreat are very proud of their beautiful interiors and finishings – a rustic blend of natural and earthy organic materials all sourced from within Portugal to ensure the rooms conform to their stunning natural surroundings.
Classes will take place on the beautiful yoga deck or inside the yoga shala, with stunning views across the mountains. New eco mats from Yogi Bare and all props are provided.
Emma caters to all levels from beginners to more experienced yogis and yoginis, and will tailor the yoga programme to include a mix of Dynamic Vinyasa, Yin-Yang, Yin and meditation.
When she was young, Emma used to ‘sit’ with her spine straight, legs crossed either observing nature or feeling a natural peace inside. Little did her bewildered parents know that one day, this interest in sitting, would grow into a love of the inner transformation of stillness, and a passion for passing this on through meditation and yoga. Emma’s classes focus on gathering an understanding of how our individual bodies move and taking her students on a journey that allows practice to move beyond form, and performing but towards feeling.
Emma initially studied Ashtanga Vinyasa 200hrs in 2011 with Yoga London. A few years on, she trained with The Yoga People in Yin Yoga & Anatomy, Rocket, Tripsicore & Mandala. Emma has since furthered her training with Paul and Suzee Grilley, Sarah Powers and ‘With-YinYoga’ in advanced Anatomy, Chakra theory and meditation and Traditional Chinese Meridian Theory.
With over 800 hours of study, Emma is a registered RYT level 1 teacher with The Yoga Alliance Professionals.
Teaching with passion and love, Emma draws upon her knowledge of the energetic layers of the body, incorporating spirituality and yogic philosophy into all her classes.
We will take one day’s break from the group yoga for a beach excursion to Ihla Deserta, but there is always access to the yoga shala, yoga deck and to the small silent snug room with a library of healthy lifestyle books to relax and meditate in for those who wish to practise on that day.
OUR FOOD + CHEF
Every day our in-house chef, Laura, will create some fresh, delicious vegetarian or vegan dishes to leave you feeling energised, nourished and super healthy. Breakfast might include baked blueberry banana oats, homemade granola, chia parfait, frittata, greek yoghurt, fruit, a fresh juice or smoothie, coffee and herbal teas.
There’ll be a range of reviving salads, shakshuka or fresh pad thai for lunch, and a hot meal such as red coconut chickpea curry for dinner, and maybe a little tasty (but-good-for-you) treat for dessert. YUM.
There are unlimited loose-leaf herbal teas, coffee and fresh fruit to help yourself to throughout the day.
Laura is able to cater for dietary needs such as gluten free and vegan. Other requirements may be catered for at an additional charge – please do get in touch with us to discuss.

Mid-week we will have a break from our retreat setting and visit Praia do Barril, one of the best beaches to visit in the area of Tavira. The beach is basically an extension of Ilha de Tavira and is known for its bizarre anchor cemetary with over 100 rusting anchors in the sand. Back in the days, life on Praia do Barril revolved around tuna fishing (bluefin tuna) and the beach had a small tuna fishing village. The old buildings that were used by the tuna fishermen are now converted into restaurants, bars and other facilities. Praia do Barril combines a beautiful beach with the charm of an old fishing village. We will travel there by minibus.
