Yogarise Peckham

Welcome to Yogarise, an award winning yoga studio and Yoga Alliance Centre of Excellence based in Peckham Rye’s Bussey Building. We opened our doors in 2014, bringing some of London’s top teachers to the area and offering a wide range of classes every day of the week. We also provide community classes which are donation based (or free to attend), raising funds for a nominated good cause of the month. Some of the local good causes we have supported include Southwark Wellbeing Hub (& Together UK), South London Cares, Peckham Food Cycle, Southwark Foodbank, Housing Action Southwark & Lambeth (a local London Coalition Against Poverty group) and Cool Tan Arts.

Yoga is a transformational practice that encourages the union of mind, body and spirit. It helps us to tune in to our body’s needs, rewarding us with a whole host of health benefits both mental and physical. As well as increased flexibility, strength and balance, it can also help with poor digestion, insomnia, anxiety, asthma, arthritis.. all sorts. With all these serious health benefits, you would think it’s a serious practice, but here at Yogarise, we believe life is for living and having fun is part of that – we look forward to welcoming you to our growing community of Peckham yogis and yoginis.

We feel that by setting up in the Bussey Building we are helping to breathe new life into an historic space, making the most of its large warehouse windows, filling the studios with a beautiful light. Copeland Park is already established within the London arts scene, housing a collection of studios, workshops and art spaces. Yogarise has built on this and supports new and emerging artists and designers by exhibiting their work on our walls and in our retail area. We are currently showcasing works by Mark Pearson, Kate Philipson ‘Leopards Lunch’ and Skev.

We opened our doors back in 2014 in this original space. Light, airy and open plan, Studio #1 has grey vinyl floors, chipboard walls and plenty of colour and character.

Our new, slightly cosier space, Studio #2 has a more intimate, relaxed feel with polished wooden floors, mood lighting and good vibes aplenty. Come on in and… let go.

Come out of Peckham Rye station and walk straight ahead, on to Rye Lane. Turn right, then cross over the road at the zebra crossing. The entrance to 133 Rye Lane is just to the left of the crossing.

Studio 1 is on the second floor of ‘B Block stairs’. To find Studio 2, continue walking down the alley, use ‘C Block’ stairs and we are on the first floor, to the left.

Yogarise Peckham is open every day Monday-Friday, 7am-9pm and Saturday-Sunday, 8.30am-6.30pm

Still lost? Don’t panic! Call us on 020 30963158 or 07377502136

Leave city life behind and get back to nature, in beautiful surroundings with delicious, healthy food
and twice daily yoga with your favourite Yogarise teachers.

Feel the freedom of fresh air and stillness, take in the views, soak up the sunshine, nurture your body and soul with wholesome, tasty food and yoga from Jonelle Lewis and Dan Breakwell.

We literally cannot wait for this retreat! We know that a week of yoga with this pair would be pretty wonderful anywhere in the world, BUT we have discovered a true gem in the protected mountain wilderness of the beautiful Algarve. If you are looking to really get away from it all, to unwind, unplug, and enjoy the moment, read on…

This very special location is renowned for its pristine air quality and breath-taking uninterrupted views without another soul in sight. Blissful, right? Each day will begin with an uplifting, dynamic yoga practice and end with a grounding yin or restorative session. There will be plenty of time to explore the stunning surroundings, take in the sunsets, relax by the infinity pool, and feast on some delicious, healthy food from nutritional chef Jo Harding.

Wild View Retreat has arisen from the ruins of an abandoned mountain village in the foothills of the Algarve in Portugal. Originally built by a Portuguese Army General in 1898, the Manor House and surrounding ruins have undergone a 1.5 year restoration and redevelopment project, transforming the iconic setting into a bespoke wellness retreat.

The retreat setting is defined by its spectacular 360° views of the Serra do Caldeirão mountains, a Zona De Intervenção Florestal protected for its natural beauty and famous Portuguese cortiça (cork) trees. Environmentally conscious, the retreat is sustainability powered by 15kw 32panel solar system and has a private water source filtered from a natural underground aquifer.

The bedrooms are completely new with private ensuite bathrooms, brand new interiors and fittings. They have been beautifully designed by Set Designer Erika Rodriguez with very comfy spacious beds, air conditioning and underfloor electric heating for the cooler months. All the rooms have large sliding French doors that walk out on to a traditional Portuguese calçalda veranda.

Outside each room there is pergola with private hammock for swinging in the breeze and deep relaxation. Wild View Retreat are very proud of their beautiful interiors and finishings – a rustic blend of natural and earthy organic materials all sourced from within Portugal to ensure the rooms’ conform to their stunning natural surroundings.

Fellow yoga teachers and treasured friends Jonelle and Dan have worked together many times before and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome them on board. We feel that their connection and partnership will bring balance and joy to the retreat
– not to mention their diverse teaching experiences and influences, that include Mandala Vinyasa, Rocket Yoga,
Yin, Qi Gong, Meditation and more.

Classes will take place on the beautiful yoga deck or inside the yoga shala, with stunning views across the mountains. New eco mats from Yogi Bare and all props are provided.

The two hour morning practice will be energising, flowing, and dynamic and will include a long relaxation. And the evening session will be a Yin/Restorative class. There is also the option of joining a 15 minute meditation session daily, before lunch. We will take one day’s break from the group yoga for a beach excursion to Ihla Deserta, but there is always access to the yoga shala, yoga deck and to the small silent snug room with a library of healthy lifestyle books to relax and meditate in for those who wish to practise on that day.

Be brave, be fierce, be free is Jonelle’s personal mantra and an invitation she extends to everyone who practices with her. An American living in London, Jonelle dabbled with Ashtanga in 2004 when she was pregnant with her daughter Francesca. After a long break from yoga, in 2011 she began practicing with a purpose. While going through a difficult divorce she found her yoga practice really helped her get her life back. It was liberating, invigorating and healing.

In March 2014 she left London behind and went to India to train as an yoga teacher. She trained with The Yoga People run by Dulce Aguilar and Jamie Clarke for her 200 hour foundation course. She’s completed over 800 hours of training and is certified in Ashtanga, Hatha, Hot, Mandala, Qi Gong, Rocket, Vinyasa & Yin yoga. She teaches all over Central and South London. She also leads UK & International yoga retreats.

Her classes are set to an urban sound track which is reflective of her roots and her passion for music, creativity and fluidity in life. From growing up in Philadelphia and living in DC and NYC she brings an international vibration and an authenticity into classes which are edgy and filled with a lot laughter. She enjoys teaching all age groups and firmly believes ‘Yoga is for EVERYBODY’.

Since travelling to India in 2014 to do his first teacher training in Ashtanga Vinyasa with The Yoga People, Dan has been inspired by many practices and traditions including Yin Yoga and Meridian theory, Traditional Chinese medicine, Qi Gong, Kirtan and Bhakti, Chakra philosophy, Mandala vinyasa and Shamanism.

In recent years his main mentor has been Mimi Kuo-Deemer, from which he draws his love and inclusion of Qi Gong within his personal practice and public classes. Dan also recently trained under the guidance of Nikki Slade, in Kirtan and Mantra on her first 200 hours learn to lead Kirtan foundation training.

Dan loves teaching and introducing people to these many practices and his hope is always to empower and enable students. Expect intuitive, alignment focussed classes that move around the mat with fluid, functional movement to help you cultivate a sense of inner steadiness, curiosity and connection to your own individual experience.

Every day our in-house chef, Jo, will create some fresh, delicious vegetarian or vegan dishes to leave you feeling energised, nourished and super healthy. Breakfast might include banana nut bread, homemade granola, chia breakfast pots, greek yoghurt, fruit, a fresh juice or smoothie, coffee and herbal teas. There’ll be a range of reviving salads for lunch, and a hot meal such as sweet potato and cauliflower curry or butternut squash lasagne for dinner, and maybe
a little tasty (but-good-for-you) treat for dessert. Nom nom nom.

There are unlimited loose-leaf herbal teas and fresh fruit to help yourself to, and an energy ball or similar healthy snack for whenever you fancy that little pick-me-up.

Jo is very happy to cater to all dietary needs – just let us know your requirements.

Food is one of life’s most powerful medicines. Thanks to a radical change in diet Jo defied the doctors to put her autoimmune condition in remission through the healing power of food. Jo’s food philosophy is all about awakening a carefree, healthier you and reducing inflammation and toxins in the body. She likes wholesome, natural food. Lots of plant based and vegan ingredients with nourishing vegetables and no sugar. Jo’s recipes are focused on keeping things simple but using vegetables in a fun, creative way so you never feel bored or deprived. She believes the secret to radiant health starts and ends with a healthy gut so all her recipes are gluten, dairy and refined sugar free. Jo shares her passion for wellbeing and nutrition on her popular blog Modern Food Stories and now works as a nutritional chef, recipe developer, food photographer and stylist
specialising in healthy, nutritionally balanced, real food recipes.
