WHO WE ARE


Welcome to Yogarise, an award winning yoga studio and Yoga Alliance Centre of Excellence based in Peckham Rye’s Bussey Building. We opened our doors in 2014, bringing some of London’s top teachers to the area and offering a wide range of classes every day of the week. We also provide community classes which are donation based (or free to attend), raising funds for a nominated good cause of the month. Some of the local good causes we have supported include Southwark Wellbeing Hub (& Together UK), South London Cares, Peckham Food Cycle, Southwark Foodbank, Housing Action Southwark & Lambeth (a local London Coalition Against Poverty group) and Cool Tan Arts.

WHY YOGA?


Yoga is a transformational practice that encourages the union of mind, body and spirit. It helps us to tune in to our body’s needs, rewarding us with a whole host of health benefits both mental and physical. As well as increased flexibility, strength and balance, it can also help with poor digestion, insomnia, anxiety, asthma, arthritis.. all sorts. With all these serious health benefits, you would think it’s a serious practice, but here at Yogarise, we believe life is for living and having fun is part of that – we look forward to welcoming you to our growing community of Peckham yogis and yoginis.

URBAN INSPIRATION


We feel that by setting up in the Bussey Building we are helping to breathe new life into an historic space, making the most of its large warehouse windows, filling the studios with a beautiful light. Copeland Park is already established within the London arts scene, housing a collection of studios, workshops and art spaces. Yogarise has built on this and supports new and emerging artists and designers by exhibiting their work on our walls and in our retail area. We are currently showcasing works by Mark Pearson, Kate Philipson ‘Leopards Lunch’ and Skev.



STUDIO #1

We opened our doors back in 2014 in this original space. Light, airy and open plan, Studio #1 has grey vinyl floors, chipboard walls and plenty of colour and character.


STUDIO #2

Our new, slightly cosier space, Studio #2 has a more intimate, relaxed feel with polished wooden floors, mood lighting and good vibes aplenty. Come on in and… let go.



HOW TO FIND US


Come out of Peckham Rye station and walk straight ahead, on to Rye Lane. Turn right, then cross over the road at the zebra crossing. The entrance to 133 Rye Lane is just to the left of the crossing.

Studio 1 is on the second floor of ‘B Block stairs’. To find Studio 2, continue walking down the alley, use ‘C Block’ stairs and we are on the first floor, to the left.

Yogarise Peckham is open every day Monday-Friday, 7am-9pm and Saturday-Sunday, 8.30am-6.30pm

What’s included?

  1. Teaching Methodology – all about techniques, how to sequence, demo, adjust and cue, how to lead groups and individuals
  2. Developing Practice  – asana A-Z, pranayama, bandhas, drishti, meditation, Sanskrit and mantras
  3. Anatomy and Physiology – practical anatomy and energetic anatomy (nadis, prana, chakras), injuries and how to prevent them
  4. Philosophy and History of Yoga – The Yoga Sutras, eight limb path, ayurvedic lifestyle, yoga philosophies and incorporating them into daily life
  5. Practical Aspects of Yoga teaching – business of yoga, social media and marketing, teacher etiquette.

What does a typical day on Teacher Training look like?

7:00-8:00am Breakfast
8:00-10:00am Asana Practice
10:00-10:15am Break
10:15-1:00am Philosophy, Asana Lab or Anatomy
1:00-2:00pm Break
2:00-5:00pm Teaching Methodology, Assists, Teaching Practice
5:00-6:00pm Restorative, Meditation, Pranayama
7:00-8:00pm Dinner


And, what about the schedule back in London?

Weekend modules will be held at Yogarise Studio Two, 8am-6pm on the weekends listed below. There will be time for lunch and breaks as appropriate. The Teacher Training exams and graduation will also take place at Yogarise in Peckham, London.


What are the exams?

In order to complete the course you will need to complete the following:

Practical exam: You will learn a 60 min set Vinyasa sequence during the training which you will be expected to teach by the end of the course. We will be examining areas such as cueing, modifications, pace of the class, and assists.

Written exam: There is a written exam at the end of the course in which you will be tested on key areas of philosophy and anatomy.

Coursework: You will be asked to write two short essays, linked to the philosophy and reading materials we are using for the course.

Observation: You will be expected to observe three different teachers from an approved list – this task is designed to help new teachers develop their own style and find their own ‘voice’.

FAQs 

Will I be accepted to join the training?

  • You will need to have a regular yoga practice (no less than 2 years) to be accepted.
  • Track record of attending yoga classes may be required.
  • Reference from a teacher to support your application may be requested.

What do I need to do to receive a certificate?

  • You will need to attend 90% of the Yogarise Teacher Training.
  • In case of sickness or unforeseen circumstances that might stop you from completing the course on time the option of catching-up will be given, however, additional charges may apply.
  • All students are expected to practice daily during the training unless advised otherwise.

Rooftop

We are now closed – see you next summer!

Take to the skies of Peckham Rye, with amazing panoramic views of London’s cityscape and all your fave Yogarise teachers.
After the success of last summer’s rooftop schedule, we are back at Rooftop Film Club for more al fresco fun
– from June to September (weather permitting).

 

    

*To access the roof, take the Bussey Building ‘B Block’ stairs and walk up to the 5th floor. Turn right into Rooftop Film Club where you will need to sign in with one of our receptionists

*Rooftop yoga mats are provided but please bring your own if you prefer. If your mat is stored with us, please check times of when it is appropriate to pick up your mat (i.e not when a class is on).

*Classes can be booked as usual through MindBody Online or the Yogarise App and are £13 drop-in. We are also accepting all other ‘Anytime’ Yogarise memberships.

*We will not be accepting cash on the door – everything MUST be pre-booked.

*Please come straight up to the roof, do not check in on the 2nd floor.

*Please note: there are toilets on the 3rd and 4th floors but no showering facilities on site.

*If the class is cancelled due to bad weather or unforeseen circumstances, the class credit will be returned back on to your Yogarise account so you can re-book another session (indoors or rooftop). You will be notified by email up to one hour before the start of class if it is cancelled.

*If there is bad weather and Studio Two is vacant, we will move the class indoors. You will have the option of attending indoors or receiving the class credit back on to your account.

*If you wish to book and pay for a friend, please contact us team@yogarisepeckham.com with your friend’s name, tel and email and we will sort it for you. Every person attending must have their own Yogarise account.
